Interviews for two new academic positions (Lecture/Senior Lecture) in Ubiquitous Computing and in Large Scale Data Fusion have been held on Thursday 18.04.2019.

Muhammad Firhard Roslan Firhard is one of Professor Ciravegna's past students currently working as OAK Research Software Engineer, and has achieved Distinction in his MSc in Advanced Software Engineering. Firhard's Dissertation project was entitled Uber for Self-driving Cars. Edwin Salcedo Also one of Professor Ciravegna's past students, and an associate of OAK working as Research Software Engineer in K-Now, Edwin has achieved Distinction in his MSc in Advanced Software Engineering. Edwin's dissertation project was Crowdsourced delivery platform based on a bio-inspired algorithm. The OAK Group is today participating in a hackathon in Birmingham, which includes meeting with the communities during the day and hacking code in the evening. The OAK Group is pleased to announce that Qamar Naith, one of Professor Ciravegna's PhD students, has been selected for the 'Best Student Paper Award' at The 3rd International Conference on Crowd Science and Engineering (ICCSE 2018), for her paper entitled 'Hybrid Crowd-powered Approach for Compatibility Testing of Mobile Devices and Applications'.
Congratulations Qamar! “Hi! I’m Firhard, a recent Advanced Software Engineering (MSc.) graduate from the University of Sheffield, UK. I was raised mostly in Malaysia and partly in the US. I finished my undergraduate in Computer Engineering (BSc.) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, US in 2017. After finishing my MSc dissertation, I have been working with the OAK Research Group at the University of Sheffield as a Research Software Engineer focusing on Web and Mobile development, which is what I wanted to do after graduating. I enjoy travelling, watching sports (football, mixed martial arts, American football), playing football, and short-distance hiking.”Our associate company, Knowedge-Now, is delighted to announce the appointment of Edwin Salcedo as Research Software Engineer. Edwin was born and raised in Bolivia. He recently completed his Master's degree in Advanced Software Engineering at The University of Sheffield. He has strong skills and experience in web and mobile development and keen interest in machine learning for healthcare and IoT. In his spare time, Edwin runs marathons, half marathons, and short races as well as working with IoT personal projects.
OAK is pleased to announce the appointment of Zeyad Abdelwahab as its newest Research Software Engineer. Zeyad has worked for the Group over the summer and is due to commence full-time employment on 3 September 2018. Zeyad's tells us the following about himself:
"I am from Egypt (Cairo). I received my BSc in Computer Engineering from the American University in Cairo in 2017. I am going to finish my MSc in Software Engineering from the University of Sheffield in September 2018. I have been working for the OAK Group as a Research Software Engineer since March 2018. I enjoy visiting new places and meeting new friends. I also love swimming, boxing and sarcasm". We are delighted to welcome Matthew Barber to the Team as Research Software Engineer in Mobile Computing. Matt joined us in August 2018 and provides the following brief biography:
"I was born in Chertsey (London), but spent most of my childhood in a small village near Peterborough (Cambridgeshire). I received my MComp in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield in 2018. Since then I have been working for the OAK group as a Research Software Engineer in Mobile Computing. I also dedicate some of my spare time to hardware and electronics work to further hone my skills. I enjoy wildlife photography, as well as playing video games with friends. I also have an interest in tanks and other tracked combat vehicles." |
